This page has been established to support Sarah and her family.

During the later stages of Sarah's pregnancy she caught the flu. As a result her gorgeous boy arrived earlier than planned and following his birth Sarah was, and remains, in a critical condition in an induced coma.

I'm creating this page to help support my brother, his wife Sarah and their tiny new baby boy. He is too proud to ask for help himself, but as you can imagine the cost of living 270 kms from home, with limited help and support around you, maintaining a bedside vigil by your wife in ICU, and also caring for a newborn is quickly taking its toll.

I am in awe of his strength, his courage and his outlook, despite the situation he is facing.

Funds raised will be used to meet the financial needs of Sarah and her family at this time such as travel, accommodation, living and ongoing medical expenses.

Her baby boy has never had the chance to lay with his Mum, snuggle into her chest or hear her infectious laugh.

If nothing less, we hope this raises awareness at the high risk of the Flu during pregnancy.

We have been overwhelmed by the suppport and concern shown for our family and understand that you may wish to send us a message. It is our preference that you do so privately at loveforsarahandrob.weebly.com

*MESSAGE FROM SARAH HAWTHORN*
August 22nd 2018

Hi, Sarah here..

This very day last year I started feeling a little unwell. I decided to phone my manager at work to arrange a day off, hoping that some rest would mean I would be back to feeling myself again. With an ultrasound booked for early afternoon I was well enough to drive myself where I was told I had a text book pregnancy.... little did they or I know that I would get to meet the beautiful baby on the screen sooner than we thought.

Things started to go wrong. Horribly wrong. A day off work to shake that ‘cold’? Well it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Many will know my story but what many don’t know is what the actions of so many have meant to Rob and I over the last 12 months.

Our lives changed. Leaving behind our farm, our trucking business and everything else we knew as normal and routine to everything that was anything but normal and routine.

Our son, Axle, was born prematurely. I was flown 400kms away. Unconscious and unaware I had given birth. A mother by title and name only. And Robert had to consider life without his wife to raise a son without a mum when my chances of making it where next to nothing.

Enter everyone who I want to say the biggest Thank you to. (And apologise to everyone who I forget to mention!) I will be forever overwhelmed by the community of people and their actions over the last 12 months. The list of everyone I want to say Thank you to is long... very long. Family, friends, medical staff, neighbours, work colleagues, sporting club mates, clients, volunteers, locals, old school mates, friends of friends, and those who were and remain total strangers but who supported us in some way.... Thankyou.

As I was waking up Robert would sit by my bedside and read me each message of support sent, tell me about each act of kindness, each offer of help. The list was endless. Day after day he would mention something new. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone and everything they had done to support our family.

Until your in this situation you are unaware and never really appreciate how amazing people can be. It gave me so much warmth knowing that people were looking after our family. Keeping us together.

Robert had rebuilt a life hundreds of kilometres away from our home and was caring for our newborn son whilst never leaving my side (he was with me every single day). This was only made possible with your support.

Looking ahead, I have many unknowns. I'm still have ongoing constant medical care, Physio and Doctor visits are part of my weekly routine. I'm not sure to what capacity my organs including my lungs will reach or the strength I will get back, but one thing I am sure about is that I love being a Mum more than anything. He is my world. I am now a mum by more than just a title and name.
